5+ years in Ruby on Rails

Hands-on experience shipping LLM features to production — retrieval systems, multimodal models, structured output. Part of your day-to-day, not a course you took.

Experience building evaluation harnesses for AI systems, not just the features themselves.

Comfortable working across the stack — enough React to test and troubleshoot own work in the frontend.

Demonstrated judgment on where AI doesn't belong — since these systems move physical inventory, knowing what to leave alone matters as much as knowing what to automate.

At least 75% overlap with Eastern Time (US).

In this role, you'll be expected to take ownership of the following responsibilities as part of your day-to-day work:

Platform Engineering Ship product features across a Rails backend hosted on Heroku and two React apps hosted on Vercel. Work in a codebase that runs a physical operation — state machines driving warehouse workflow, feature flags, and a long tail of third-party integrations. Help shape where the architecture goes next as we work through a roadmap full of new products and features.

AI-Assisted Support — where you'd start Build triage and classification so incoming requests route themselves. Implement semantic dedup so recurring questions resolve from precedent instead of reaching a person twice. Ground draft replies in answers we've actually given before, rather than generating them fresh. Route tickets into Linear automatically when they turn out to be bugs, with the context already attached. Design a confident escalation path to a human, and measure honestly how often it fires.

AI Evaluation & Reliability Build the evaluation layer that lets us measure every model change before it ships, against real warehouse data with known answers. Turn human overrides into signal for the next version rather than a shrug. Bring every surface to one shared understanding of our grading logic. Own the reliability of pipelines where a single misread character — a letter means a device we can't track.

Retrieval & Reasoning from Precedent Move our models from working oﬀ a rubric to working oﬀ precedent: what happened to the thousand devices most like this one. Design retrieval over a decade of data on devices, grades, and real resale outcomes. Make the call on what infrastructure this actually needs — we'd rather you talk us out of a vector database than into one.

Agents That Act Build agents that operate inside our domain: look up a device, check a shipment, update a record, draft a customer update. Extend the same approach to engineering work — writing code, suggesting changes, reviewing. Design the guardrails that make all of that safe to run.

Raising the Floor for the Team Make AI fluency the norm here rather than something concentrated in one person. Build shared context so engineers work toward a common goal instead of rediscovering the same things in silos. Set the standard by example — six months in, other engineers should work diﬀerently because of how you work.
