This Senior iOS Engineer will join a lean, experienced team working on a highly specialized iPad application at the intersection of software, imaging, and scientific hardware. The role involves building new user-facing analysis modules, helping modernize the app’s UI, and contributing to a complex, real-world product used in production environments. It is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys large codebases, technically challenging iOS work, and meaningful product ownership within a senior team.

In this role, you'll be expected to take ownership of the following responsibilities as part of your day-to-day work:

Design, build, and ship new analysis modules (timelapse, cell counting, confluency, transfection efficiency) for a specialist iPad application that controls benchtop microscopes and delivers real-time image analysis to cell biology labs.

Lead the iOS 26 UI modernization — migrate off the legacy compatibility flag and adapt the app to the Liquid Glass design system — while writing idiomatic SwiftUI for new modules that interop cleanly with a large UIKit-dominant codebase (~390 view controllers, coordinator pattern).

Apply strict Swift concurrency (actors, @MainActor, Sendable) to resolve real data races, and work within an operation-composition architecture (ProcedureKit) alongside GCD for hardware and acquisition workflows.

Own the image and camera pipeline: CoreImage/Metal for real-time GPU-accelerated rendering and AVFoundation for live capture from connected lab hardware.

Build networking/file I/O features (URLSession, Files app export, WebDAV/SMB) and licensing-gated functionality for new modules, backed by XCTest coverage and Fastlane CI/CD.

Act as a strong independent contributor in a lean, distributed team (San Diego + Europe) — driving work with minimal hand-holding and regularly reviewing PRs to mentor a junior iOS engineer.
