This is a rare opportunity to own and shape the Search Platform at one of the leading food tech marketplaces in the US. As Staff Software Engineer, you will be the senior technical owner of a greenfield search infrastructure build — leading the migration from a legacy system to a modern, Vespa-based search engine with real-time indexing, multi-signal ranking, and geospatial filtering at scale.

You will set technical direction, design the indexing pipeline, and define relevance and ranking strategy across TypeAhead and Core Search — working closely with a strong ML Engineering team and having a direct impact on order volume and customer satisfaction. This is a hands-on leadership role with full ownership, high visibility, and a clear path to evolving the conversation from "how do we build search?" to "what signals should we invest in next?"

6+ years in Backend Engineering

Deep experience designing and building search engines or retrieval systems (Elastic search, Solr, OpenSearch, Vespa, or equivalent).

Proven experience leading a major search architecture redesign or building a search platform from the ground up.

Strong proficiency in Go, or a willingness to adopt Go as a primary language.

Experience with real-time data pipelines (Kafka, event streaming) for search indexing.

Strong understanding of search relevance and ranking systems, with the ability to translate product objectives into measurable ranking signals and data-driven improvements.

A pragmatic, collaborative mindset with strong ownership and systems thinking.

Every job requires English proficiency, being based in LATAM.

Bonus Skills

Hands-on experience with Vespa.

Experience building, managing, and monitoring distributed workflows using Temporal, Airflow, or comparable orchestration frameworks.
